My opinion of news writing and as a
citizen journalist
As citizen
journalists, we can learn to use websites such as blogs, podcasts as well as
social media, and YouTube to disseminate information. Citizen journalism can
use the platform to write news writing. Using platforms such as bloggers can
help citizen journalism in writing news writing. Blogger can be used easily
with various features in it such as there is a comment feature that makes it
easier for readers to provide feedback to the author. Make it easier for
citizen journalism to reach their news writing access to a larger readership.
Create news writing by collecting credible, accurate, and objective
information. News writing is based on facts without bias. For the information
shown to be accountable, as a citizen journalism must conduct news gathering
first before writing news writing. News gatherings can be done such as
conducting interviews and background research. Write news that becomes
informative and valuable to the readers. Make good use of existing platforms in
the stage of improving writing skills.

Reflection
Today's learning
discussion is different from the material from last week because last week we
discussed an example and analysis of news features, so this week the material
discussed is about selecting topics for news feature writing. This lesson means
how to select topics for news feature writing in English as a foreign language
(EFL) about some suggestions. Through discussion about selecting topics for news
feature writing in EFL, I now realize that we can feel excited about selecting
topics in EFL news feature writing. Have various topics such as cultural
festivals, education, health, art, travel, etc. The most helpful experience for
me has been that these topics can be explored through interviews and visual and
local perspectives. These skills will be essential to me as a learner of news,
features, and editorial courses because I can know and learn more about this
knowledge also this knowledge will be essential to me in the workplace later in
the future because I can improve the ability to create an attractive and
successful news writing that delivered to an audience or reader.
Summary
According to the lecture’s
explanation and lecture note in their article titled “Selecting topics for EFL
News Feature Writing,” it was stated
that EFL news feature writing can be exciting, with topics such as cultural
festivals, environmental initiatives, education trends, technology
advancements, health and wellness, entrepreneurship and business, art and
culture, community profiles, travel and tourism, and social issues. These
topics can be explored through interviews, visual aids, and local perspectives.
For example, focusing on cultural festivals can explore the history and
significance of local celebrations, while environmental initiatives can explore
sustainability efforts and eco-friendly practices. Education trends can discuss
new teaching methods, student challenges, and success stories in education.
Technology advancements can explore the impact of technology on society and the
digital divide. Health and wellness can focus on fitness trends, mental health
awareness, and traditional medicine practices. Entrepreneurship and business
can showcase local startups and success stories. Community profiles can
highlight individuals or groups making a difference in their community. Travel
and tourism can explore hidden gems and the impact of tourism on local
communities. Social issues can address societal challenges like homelessness,
poverty, and social inequality.
