My opinion of news writing and as a
citizen journalist
As citizen
journalists, we can learn to use websites such as blogs, podcasts as well as
social media, and YouTube to disseminate information. Citizen journalism can
use the platform to write news writing. Using platforms such as bloggers can
help citizen journalism in writing news writing. Blogger can be used easily
with various features in it such as there is a comment feature that makes it
easier for readers to provide feedback to the author. Make it easier for
citizen journalism to reach their news writing access to a larger readership.
Create news writing by collecting credible, accurate, and objective
information. News writing is based on facts without bias. For the information
shown to be accountable, as a citizen journalism must conduct news gathering
first before writing news writing. News gatherings can be done such as
conducting interviews and background research. Write news that becomes
informative and valuable to the readers. Make good use of existing platforms in
the stage of improving writing skills.

Reflection
Through discussion
about analyzing and writing a news story, I now realize that a news story
contains a detailed report of an event. The most helpful aspect for me has been
that the structure used in news features writing also to follow the structure
usually used in news writing with an inverted pyramid writing style for news
reporting. Having read the material about news features, I now realize that
important information is at the top of the news, and unimportant at the bottom
of the story. This lesson means that a news story requires the ability to sort
information ranging from important to unimportant without affecting the overall
coherence of the news and also making it easier for editors to condense the
news. These skills will be essential to me as a learner of news, features, and
editorial courses because I can know and learn more about this knowledge also
this knowledge is essential to me in the workplace later in the future because
I can know and improve the ability to create a good and true news story and pay
attention to namely headlines, lead, the body of the text, and the ending.
Summary
According to the lecture’s
explanation and lecture note in their article titled “An example of a feature
story in news writing and its analysis and feedback,” it was stated that The Jakarta Post lists six
must-try noodle joints in Bandung, West Java, including Kedai Wanmin's deep,
rich-brothed bowl of 'niu rou mian' (beef noodle), Rumah Makan Linggarja's beef
soup with wheat flour noodles, and Kedai Wanmin Jl. Semar's beef soup with
wheat flour noodles and spicy and sour soup with sweet potato noodles. The
feature story about six must-try noodle joints in Bandung is rated as good
based on the news writing style analysis criteria rubric. The headline lists
six must-try noodle joints, but could be more engaging. The lead effectively
introduces the premise of exploring notable noodle spots, adhering to the
inverted pyramid structure. The tone and voice are descriptive and subjecve,
but could be improved with more varied rhetorical analysis principles. The
language features and vocabulary are excellent, but lacks direct quotes from
interviews or external sources.
