SUMMARY
According
to Student Voices (1999), author of “How to Write a Profile Feature Article.”
states that Student journalists should be aware of the rules of attribution,
ask open questions, prepare for interviews, and interview with breadth and
depth to accurately represent their experiences and views. Write for a national
audience, interview students from different schools, keep an open mind, outline
your story, focus on what’s most compelling, and show, dont tell. Put your story
in context, dont overuse direct quotes, fill holes, triple-check for accuracy,
and proofread for spelling and grammatical mistakes. Put your story in context
to help answer a reader biggest question. Dont overuse direct quotes,
attribution, fill holes, triple-check for accuracy, and proofread for spelling and
grammar mistakes. A profile feature article is a newspaper article that
explores the background and character of a particular person or group. It
should focus on a news angle or a single aspect of the subject personal or
professional life and should be based on an extensive interview with the
subject. The article should open with the subject’s connection to the news
event and should deal later with birth, family, education, career, and hobbies.
Interview at least five other people, representing a variety of perspectives,
about the subject of the article. Contact sources early and often, research background
material, and create a profile feature lede to capture the essence of the
person you are profiling. Don't use the "inverted pyramid"
style of writing; weave background material with details and quotes; save a
quote for the last sentence.
REFLECTION
Previously,
I questioned whether the news only contains news about something that recently
happened or can contain someone's profile article such as biography.
Because I do not yet know about this knowledge, I will now need to read more
about this topic because it is a useful topic for me in studying journalism.
Having learned this knowledge I now know that writing articles about
someone's profile has the same way we write news writing about an
event. Prepare a news gathering before conducting interviews with people who will
be used as resource persons in writing feature profiles. I have developed my knowledge
of this material that the profile feature contains about the background of a person
or group which focuses on one aspect of the interviewee's personal
life. For me, the most important aspect was that featured profile leads are
often more creative than typical news leads which not only contain 5w1h but can
explain to the reader who the person written in the featured profile is and why
this person is interesting. This knowledge is important to me in the workplace
because it can train the ability to write news about feature profiles, where
the ability to write according to the structure and how to take the right steps
in writing someone’s feature profile.
